TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 6 that shook the Teluk Tomini area in Bone Bolango, Gorontalo on Wednesday morning, November 5, 2025. The quake, which occurred at 06:32 AM local time, was located at sea, about 65 kilometers southeast of Bone Bolango, at a depth of 109 kilometers, according to a statement by BMKG's Director of Earthquake and Tsunami, Daryono.
Daryono stated that this medium-category earthquake is an intraslab type, triggered by rock deformation within the Sulawesi Sea Plate. Analysis of the source mechanism indicates that the earthquake has a thrust fault movement.
BMKG's tremor map indicates that the tremor was felt in the areas of Bone Bolango and Luwuk with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI, meaning it was felt by many people inside buildings. The tremor also registered as III-MMI in North Gorontalo Regency, Boalemo Regency, Ampana, Taliabu, Bolaang Mongondow Utara, Bolaang Mongondow, Banggai Kepulauan, Banggai Laut, and Gorontalo City.
The tremor reached Pohuwato Regency and Tondano with an intensity scale of II-III MMI, giving a sensation as if a truck was passing by. Daryono confirmed that there is no potential for a tsunami. "As of 06:58 AM local time, BMKG's monitoring has not shown any aftershocks," he said.
Daryono urged the local community to remain calm and keep monitoring BMKG's information. There is also a recommendation to avoid buildings at risk of cracking or collapsing due to the earthquake.
