TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto, targets a 100 percent electricity recovery rate in Aceh by 12:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) on Monday, December 8, 2025. On Sunday night, December 7, 2025, Suharyanto stated that the electricity recovery rate had reached 81 percent in 23 districts/cities.
"We received instructions from the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, that by Monday at 12:00, all of Aceh will have 100 percent electricity," said Suharyanto during a limited meeting on disaster management in Aceh, monitored from the President's Secretariat's YouTube channel.
At the same time, Bahlil Lahadalia stated that electricity had been restored in Aceh Tengah, Bener Meriah, Aceh Tamiang, and Gayo Lues. However, Banda Aceh had only 95 percent electricity restored. Bahlil targeted 100 percent electricity restoration in Banda Aceh by Monday either in the morning or evening.
Prior to this, Indonesian President Prabowo received a report from Bahlil stating that the electricity in Aceh Province will be restored by Sunday night. While inspecting the construction of the Teupin Mane bailey bridge in Bireuen Regency, Aceh, Prabowo inquired with Bahlil about when the electricity could be operational for illumination.
"Will the lights be on soon?" Prabowo asked at the location.
"Tonight, all of it will be on, Sir," Bahlil replied to Prabowo.
Bahlil explained that the electricity supply in the majority of Aceh Province, or within 93 percent of the province's scope, would be operational tonight.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto instructed his staff to ensure that electricity connections are restored to disaster-affected areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, at the latest by Sunday night.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, when contacted in Jakarta on Saturday night, December 6, 2025, explained that the President gave this instruction during a restricted meeting with several ministers, the President's personal residence, Bukit Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java.
"In West Sumatra, the electricity supply is almost fully restored, while in North Sumatra, there are still several areas, such as in Langkat and Tapanuli, where the electricity has not been restored. The same is true for several regions in Aceh. The President ordered that by tomorrow night, the electricity must be fully restored," Teddy explained the President's instruction to his staff during the restricted meeting on Saturday.
