Boeing Promises to Involve Local Industry if Indonesia Buys F-15EX Fighter Jets

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - American aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, once again offered their F-15EX fighter jets to the Indonesian government. Boeing promised to fulfill up to 85 percent of the domestic component level (TKDN) if Indonesia is interested in purchasing the aircraft.

"If Indonesia chooses the F-15EX, Boeing will meet 85 percent of the requirement through local production," said Boeing's CEO for Southeast Asia, Penny Burtt, in a meeting with the media in Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

She said that the commitment opens opportunities for Boeing to help Indonesia achieve growth, in line with national defense and long-term economic development priorities. Boeing, she said, will improve the skills of suppliers and help Indonesian companies connect with the global aviation and aerospace sector.

Prior to this, when serving as Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto had expressed an interest in purchasing the F-15EX. The purchase plan will be made through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing by the end of 2023.

Executive Director of Fighter Aircraft Business Development in the Air Dominance Division, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, Robert Novotny, said the signing of the MoU brings the procurement contract process closer. "We signed an MoU that we will cooperate and move towards a contract (purchase), and I think we are very close," said Robert.

Along with the re-offer of fighter aircraft, Robert explained that Boeing has had a special team in Indonesia for the past year. They are seeking opportunities to partner, invest, and develop the local industry.

Robert outlined that the supply chain had been fragile during the Covid-19 pandemic. "That is why we consider it very important to find local suppliers, local manufacturers, and local opportunities to strengthen and enhance the resilience of the supply chain," he said.
