TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong, widely known as Tom Lembong, has been convicted of corruption in connection with sugar imports between 2015 and 2016.
"Imposing a 4-year and 6-month prison sentence on the defendant Thomas Trikasih Lembong," announced Chief Judge Rianto Dennie Arsan Fatrika, reading the verdict at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Friday, July 18, 2025.
In addition to the prison term, Lembong was also fined Rp750 million. Failure to pay this fine will result in an additional 6 months of imprisonment.
This verdict is lighter than the public prosecutor's demand, who had sought a 7-year prison sentence for Lembong, along with the same Rp750 million fine or a 6-month substitute imprisonment.
Tom Lembong was found guilty of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) number 1 of the Criminal Code.
