TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A hotel in Japan, Toyoko Inn Osaka Dome Mae, is testing a unique service for its guests' dolls. Guests can rent mini beds and adorable bathrobes for their dolls.
The service, introduced in June 2025, emerged alongside the nuikatsu "living with dolls" trend popular on Japanese social media. This trend showcases people traveling with their dolls or nuigurumi. Some put them in transparent window backpacks, while others carry them.
Traveling with Dolls
Many social media users share their travel adventures with dolls, most of whom are young people or fans of popular cartoon characters. Photos of dolls in restaurants, on high-speed trains, and in hotel beds have gone viral on social media.
This trend has also spread to China. According to the South China Morning Post, related posts have been viewed more than 10 million times on social media in the country. In April, an internet user with the handle "do not Wanna Get Up" took two dog dolls on a tour around Europe, taking photos of them at 18 tourist spots. "Everywhere I went, strangers wanted to take pictures with my plushies. It made me even happier than being in the photos myself," they said.
Targeting Gen Z
A Toyoko Inn hotel representative told J-Cast News that they hope this service will be popular among Gen Z tourists, as reported by The Independent. They claimed that the guests' response exceeded expectations. The hotel network now plans to expand the service to more locations.
The Toyoko Inn website states that this package includes a special overnight stay kit for your favorite merchandise, such as dolls or acrylic stands, complete with a mini bed and small bathrobe.
These doll beds can be rented for an additional fee of 300 yen. Guests must return them to the hotel upon check-out.
Travelers are also encouraged to upload photos or videos of their stay on TikTok, X, or Instagram with a hashtag indicating that Toyoko Inn is the right place to meet your favorite idol. Guests who upload with that hashtag will receive a small prize.
