TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - AI Green, a Democratic Party member of Congress, plans to file an impeachment against Donald Trump within 30 days. According to him, Trump is not fit to serve as the President of the United States. As cited by USA Today, the Democratic Party parliamentarian from Texas, who previously proposed impeachment articles against Trump during his first term, is determined to do so again within a month.
Congressman Al Green was recently ejected from a joint address with the president in Congress for standing and shouting in protest. He expressed this during one of the anti-Trump demonstrations held in various areas on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Green will reintroduce the impeachment motion within the next 30 days. As quoted from Antara, Green speaks during the protest in Washington, DC, on Saturday, April 5, 2025. He said people need a Senate that will truly punish Trump and call him a Goliath figure.
Not the First Time
This is not the first time Green has tried to impeach Trump. In February 2025, he stated that the movement to impeach the president had begun. He promised to propose impeachment articles against Trump for his proposals regarding Gaza. Not only that, he had previously attempted three similar efforts during Trump's first term from 2016 to 2020, all of which failed.
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, there was a protest against Trump and his populist policies, known by the slogan "Make America Great Again." Many protesters carried posters with the phrase "Hands Off!" as a form of rejection of Trump's policies.
As cited from NewsWeek, the "Hands Off!" movement described itself as a national mobilization against several major policies that the Trump administration has implemented in the past two and a half months.
Trigger for Impeachment Demands
Trump has already faced impeachment moments twice by the American Congress during his four-year term. In 2019, he was urged to be impeached, triggered by the Democratic Party's investigation into allegations that Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to seek information that could politically tarnish Joe Biden's name. In 2021, Trump was impeached again on allegations of inciting the riot at the Capitol on January 6.
In both cases, the American Senate ultimately acquitted Trump. At this point, with Congress and the Senate controlled by the Republican Party, the chances of articles of impeachment being approved are slim. The White House has not commented on Green's statement until Sunday, April 6, 2025.
