TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Real Madrid managed to conquer Juventus in the third match of the Champions League, early Thursday morning WIB, October 23, 2025. Playing in front of their supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu, Xabi Alonso's squad secured their third victory in this European Championship thanks to Jude Bellingham's lone goal in the second half.
Alonso had predicted that the match against Juventus would be a tough one for his squad. "We knew this was going to be a highly competitive match. It's tough to win. We started really well, the goal brought out our best moments and we might have made the scoreline more difficult," he said as quoted by UEFA.
"Juventus played with at least three attackers towards the end of the match, so I made changes to account for that," he said. "But this is the Champions League. We tried to maintain the victory and there were tough moments, but that's normal."
In this match, Real Madrid dominated ball possession reaching 66 percent. They managed to release 26 shots with nine of them on target. This record greatly surpassed Juventus' 11 shot attempts with six on target.
Despite creating numerous chances, Kylian Mbappe and his teammates struggled to score. Bellingham finally managed to tuck the ball into Michele Di Gregorio's goal in the 57th minute. Inside the penalty area, he pounced on the rebound from Vinicius Junior's shot that hit the goalpost.
Despite failing to keep out Bellingham's shot, Gregorio played well. He made several crucial saves when thwarting two of Mbappe and Brahim Diaz's shots. Defender Federico Gatti also blocked Diaz's attempt on another occasion.
Alonso praised Bellingham's performance. "Jude played very complete, even beyond his goal. I really like how he played against Getafe (Sunday) and especially today, plus his goal."
According to him, Bellingham provided an extraordinary sensation with his competitive play and how he created dangerous situations. "I'm glad for that," he said. "I think he's a player who's in the midfield. He has the skills and instinct to be at the top of the field, but also a box-to-box player. He's one of the most complete players in the world."
Real Madrid's success in clinching three points in this match was also attributed to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who performed well in his 300th appearance for this Spanish club. He made a series of saves to guard his goal from conceding.
This result puts Real Madrid at nine points, including five teams that swept the first three matches with victories. However, their position is fifth below Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Arsenal, due to goal difference.
The four teams at the top of the current Champions League standings all recorded big wins in their third matches.
