Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2025: Here Are the 'Anime of the Year' Nominees

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2025 is an annual event organized by Crunchyroll to celebrate outstanding achievements in the anime industry. This year’s awards will recognize anime titles released between October 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 25, 2025, at the Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan.

According to Teenvogue, Crunchyroll has added three new categories for the 2025 awards: Best Background Art, Best Isekai, and Best Hindi Voice Actor, bringing the total number of categories to 32.

Voting for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2025 was open from April 3 to April 14, 2025, with fans allowed to cast one vote per day via the Crunchyroll website.

As reported by Comic Book Resources, here are the nominees for the prestigious 'Anime of the Year' category:

1. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End tells an emotional story that begins not from the climax, but from what happens afterwards.

As an elven sorceress who has lived for centuries, Frieren faces loneliness and regret as she reminisces about her mortal friends. This anime stands out not because of action, but through touching dialogue and deep reflection on time, love, and loss.

2. The Apothecary Diaries

The Apothecary Diaries weaves together palace intrigue and medicinal knowledge through Maomao, a brilliant apothecary with a knack for solving mysteries. Set against the backdrop of the Imperial Palace, the anime delivers a mix of drama, wit, and quiet defiance in a richly layered storyline.

3. Solo Leveling

Solo Leveling follows the journey of Jin Woo, once known as the weakest hunter, who gains immense power and begins an extraordinary transformation.

Beyond its intense battles and stunning animation, the anime explores the darker aspects of strength: loneliness, responsibility, and the sacrifices it demands. The adaptation stays true to the original manhwa, capturing its core themes and style.

4. Dandadan

Dandadan blends aliens, ghosts, and psychic abilities into a bizarre yet heartwarming coming-of-age story.

Amid the supernatural chaos, the series highlights deep emotional connections between its characters. Despite its fast-paced and eccentric action, Dandadan carries a genuine message about trust and the power of friendship.

5. Kaiju No. 8

In Kaiju No. 8, Kafka Hibino, a cleaner of monster remains, unexpectedly gains the ability to transform into a kaiju himself. While concealing his secret, he joins the defense force to chase a long-held dream.

What makes this anime stand out isn't just the thrilling monster fights; it's Kafka's emotional journey. He is a tired but determined hero, grappling with fear and self-doubt, yet pushing forward with unwavering resolve.

6. Delicious in Dungeon

Delicious in Dungeon combines fantasy and culinary in a unique way. When their friend is killed by a dragon, a group of adventurers survives by cooking underground monsters.

This anime presents a rich magical world, stunning animation, and a story that is delicious both literally and emotionally.
