TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Many campuses have reached out to help victims of the floods in Sumatra, including Malikussaleh University (Unimal).

Students from the Electrical Engineering Study Program at the university provided free repair services for electronic devices to the flood victims in Aceh. This service is part of the humanitarian activities focused on the disaster-affected communities in North Aceh Regency and Lhokseumawe City.

"The electronic device repair service for disaster victims is located at the Maintenance Building of Malikussaleh University in the Bukit Indah area," said Andik Bintoro, Secretary of the Electrical Engineering Department at Malikussaleh University, in Banda Aceh on Saturday, December 6, 2025, quoted from Antara.

Andik mentioned that the week-long service is a tangible way for electrical engineering lecturers and students to help disaster victims, particularly with electronic devices submerged in floodwater. "With our presence in this activity, hopefully, we can help the victims," he said.

Wahyu Riansyah, a representative of the Electrical Engineering Student Association at Unimal, said that many residents have used the service. He stated that a significant number of residents have come to the post bringing electronic equipment damaged by the disaster.

"A total of 22 electronic devices have been successfully repaired and can be used again, including fans, rice cookers, refrigerators, water pumps, and others," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Khairul Munadi, stated that they are continuing to coordinate closely with campuses in flood-affected areas of Sumatra to ensure that aid is distributed effectively. He revealed that campus volunteers swiftly provide support in almost every disaster area.

Khairul cited several campuses in Aceh that have sent technical and medical teams to strengthen emergency services, including assessment processes and health support. These include Syiah Kuala University (USK), which deployed four surveyors from the Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center to Pidie Jaya Regency, and 15 resident doctors who assisted with operational services at Meureudu General Hospital.

He also mentioned that Teuku Umar University (UTU) has provided aid to the Woyla and Pante Ceureumen Districts in West Aceh Regency, as well as Beutong Ateuh Banggalang in Nagan Raya Regency. These areas are still a priority as they have not yet fully received adequate support up to last weekend.

In North Sumatra, North Sumatra University (UMSU) has opened emergency scholarships for students affected by the disaster in three provinces. Support and aid have also flowed from other campuses outside Sumatra.

"This act of cooperation shows that higher education institutions in Indonesia not only serve as learning spaces but also exist in the midst of communities that need real support," said Khairul as quoted by Antara.
