TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, has clarified the leaked conversation between his father and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. A microphone unintentionally captured their discussion during a meeting in Egypt last Monday.
Prabowo was heard asking Trump if he could meet Eric. Trump responded to Prabowo saying, "I’ll have Eric call,” Trump replied. “Should I do that? He’s such a good boy."
The Hill reported that Eric Trump revealed during an appearance on "Bolling!" with Eric Bolling on Real America's Voice that the Trump Organization has two projects in Indonesia, one located in the tourist hotspot Bali, and the other in Lido, near the capital Jakarta. Eric Trump mentioned that he hasn't met Prabowo yet.
"I don’t get involved in politics in Indonesia — but when I heard that, I started laughing," said Eric Trump. "Can I please meet Eric?’ He must know the projects very well. And so, you know, we’re very proud of what we did in Indonesia. We’ve been there for, you know, well over a decade. And so, you know, I’m sure he hears about our great success."
The Trump Organization's website plans to promote its planned resorts in Lido and Bali. The golf course in Lido, designed by golf legend Ernie Els, was officially opened in March. It is not yet known when the resort in Lido will open or when the Trump International Resort & Golf Club Bali will be completed.
Eric Trump is the executive vice president of the Trump Organization. Previously, the Trump Organization stated that the property in Bali will be a six-star resort and a new world-class beach club, which also offers an exclusive collection of "luxury villas, mansions, and high-end resort condominiums."
Eric Trump appeared on Bolling's show to promote his new book, "Under Siege: My Family's Fight to Save Our Nation." Earlier this month, Eric Trump spoke with Chris Cuomo of NewsNation on the "CUOMO" show about the book, stating that the book details the "slanderous lies" faced by the president.
"They put our family, they put my father, they put me under siege,” Eric Trump said. “They put this nation under siege with their garbage and their games, all so they could get a couple extra votes, and it’s wrong, and the nation needs to know that."
Foreign Minister Sugiono Calls Prabowo-Trump Conversation Informal
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono referred to the informal conversation video between Prabowo Subianto and US President Donald Trump at the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, as private and unrelated to formal state affairs.
Sugiono responded to the viral hot mic moment that touched on an invitation to meet with the Trump family. "There were many things both of them discussed beyond formal state matters, as they are also friends," Sugiono cited from Antara.
Sugiono mentioned that there was nothing extraordinary about the informal exchange between Trump and Prabowo at that moment. He added that Prabowo often has informal conversations with world leaders, including Donald Trump, with whom he has a close relationship.
"It's normal, isn't it, for the president to converse privately with other heads of state, and I think the President's relationship with President Trump is pretty close," Sugiono said.
Regarding speculation that the conversation touched on plans to meet with the Trump family, including Eric Trump, Foreign Minister Sugiono admitted he did not know the extent of the conversation. "Pak Prabowo often engages in private conversations, and yesterday, while waiting in the lounge, he had lengthy conversations with many heads of state," Sugiono said.
If there are official talks that require follow-up in the context of diplomatic relations, he assured that he would be given direct instructions by Prabowo.
