TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of social media accounts are spreading claims that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has officially discontinued the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. The narrative circulated on Instagram [archive], Facebook, Threads, TikTok, and YouTube following the corruption case that involved former Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, on June 3, 2026.
The post included a poster with a photo of President Prabowo and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. The Indonesian-written text stated that MBG had been officially replaced by cash assistance: "Breaking news. MBG officially abolished by Prabowo! Purbaya replaces MBG with cash. Thousands of SPPGs (MBG kitchen) go out of business."

Tempo verified the content using a reverse image search and compared it with credible information. The results indicated that President Prabowo would continue the Rp335 trillion MBG program, despite several organizations urging its abolishment.
The government has ensured the MBG program will continue until June 2026, with governance improvements over the next month. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the improvements will focus on reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs) at each Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) or MBG kitchen. Any SPPGs found to be inadequate will receive a note for improvement.
BGN Head Nanik Sudaryati Deyang added that President Prabowo decided to continue this program along with budget efficiency measures, without detailing the amount of the reduction.
According to The Times Indonesia, the Head of the Government Communications Agency (Bakom RI), Muhammad Qodari, emphasized that the MBG program will continue because it is a campaign promise made by Prabowo in the 2024 Presidential Election.
"It would be a big mistake to demand that Pak Prabowo stop the program. That was precisely his campaign promise," Qodari said.
