TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Hamas militia group denied information that it had put forward a number of conditions for a ceasefire with Israel in Gaza on Sunday, June 29, 2025. They called it a "blatant fabrication" of their official position towards Israel.
Sky News Arabia, a media outlet in the United Arab Emirates, reported that based on information from their exclusive sources, Hamas demanded a number of conditions for the ceasefire. The conditions include that their political offices abroad are not touched so that their financial flows are not restricted. They also asked to continue participating in managing the Gaza Strip in the future. Hamas also asked for a guarantee from the United States to stop the war for 70 days.
Hamas stated that the news was completely baseless. "This lie contradicts our clear public position," Hamas said in a statement quoted by Shafaq News. They stressed that "their demands were never conveyed through anonymous sources" and accused the media of inciting incitement against the Palestinian resistance and trying to divert attention from the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza.
US President Donald Trump said he believes a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is possible "in the next week." "I think it's close," Trump said, as quoted by CBS on Friday, June 28, 2025. "We think in the next week, we'll have a ceasefire."
Israel and Hamas have had two ceasefires and hostage releases since October 2023. The last was a 60-day pause in hostilities that ended in mid-March 2025. After that, fighting resumed.
The Trump administration has been pushing for a ceasefire between the two sides. However, so far there seems to be no sign of a deal being reached. Neither Israel nor Hamas have officially commented on the proposed imminent ceasefire.
