Hyundai Says No Plan to Raise Car Prices Over Middle East War

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Korean automotive giant Hyundai is not considering raising car prices in the near future despite the war in the Middle East. The conflict has driven up various commodity prices—from crude oil and logistics to the raw materials for plastics—and triggered rupiah depreciation against the US dollar.

Chief Operating Officer of PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia, Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, said the company is not pressured to cut production expenses and strives to give users its best.

"It could be absorbed by improvements made during the manufacturing and distribution process, which won't burden dealers as well," he said when met at the Hyundai office in Jakarta on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

Hyundai's selling price, Fransiscus went on, is guaranteed to remain stable as the company strives to boost car sales this year.

Hyundai also said it is committed to bringing electric-powered environmentally friendly products to the market. "We strive to do it for the customers, so that our automotive industry remains stable," he said.

Fransiscus hoped the Indonesian government would pay close attention to the automotive industry through incentives for electric cars again. This year, the incentive has been scrapped to prioritize the national car program.

Hyundai considered the shift from fuel-powered to electric vehicles a sign of environmental concern. Fransiscus called for more benefits for electric vehicle users besides tax relief, such as special prices for toll or parking payments. "That's what we hope for from the government," he said.

Based on the annual sales figures, Hyundai has sold 19,007 car wholesale units (factory-to-dealer sales) and 19,664 retail units (dealer-to-consumer sales). The achievement in 2025 decreased compared to 2024, which was 22,361 wholesale units and 22,097 retail units.
