Indonesia's Prabowo Set to Meet Putin on June 19

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to visit Russia on Thursday, June 19, 2025. This was announced by the Secretary of the Cabinet, Teddy Indra Wijaya, in an official statement on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

"In Russia, President Prabowo, who was directly invited by President Putin, will be officially received with a state greeting and will hold a bilateral meeting on June 19, 2025," Teddy stated.

Moreover, on June 20, 2025, Prabowo is also scheduled to attend as the main speaker at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025, a global economic forum that brings together world leaders, business players, and economic experts.

According to Teddy, this state visit is highly strategic as it can strengthen Indonesia and Russia's comprehensive cooperation and partnership.

"And of course, this shows that Indonesia, as a major country, is increasingly recognized on the world stage, especially amidst the growing global challenges," Teddy added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously confirmed that President Prabowo will undertake a state visit to the Russian Federation next week. During the visit, Prabowo is scheduled to meet with President Vladimir Putin and speak at an international economic forum.

"The President and a limited entourage are scheduled to visit St. Petersburg, Russia, on June 18-20, 2025," said Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat, also known as Roy, during a press conference at the ministry office in Jakarta on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Roy explained that while accepting Putin's invitation, Prabowo will attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in St. Petersburg. "The President is scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening and plenary session of SPIEF together with President Putin," he said.

During the meeting with Putin, Roy mentioned that Prabowo will discuss the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Roy continued that the two leaders will also exchange views on both countries' regional and global issues of concern.

Roy explained that Prabowo will also sign several memoranda of understanding (MoU), including cooperation in transportation development, shipbuilding, education, creative economy, and computer technology.

Last April, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, stated that they were preparing for the Indonesian president's visit to Russia in June. "The visit plan has been confirmed by Indonesia, and we will prepare the important agenda well," Ambassador Tolchenov said in Jakarta on Monday, April 28, 2025, as quoted from Antara.

Tolchenov hopes that Prabowo can use his presence at SPIEF 2025 to convey his vision and insights on the world's economic situation and how Indonesia is facing global issues.
