TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country is ready to reach a balanced and fair agreement with the United States (US), while emphasizing that national interests remain the guiding principle in negotiations.
Pezeshkian made this statement in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is fully prepared to reach a balanced and fair agreement that ensures lasting peace and security in the region," he said, as quoted by Iran International in an official statement from the Iranian presidency on social media.
He added that the rights of the Iranian people and the country's strategic interests are unbreakable boundaries in negotiations with Washington.
During the conversation, Pezeshkian also outlined the progress of the dialogue with the US, emphasizing that the biggest obstacle to a deal is Washington's "double standards."
