TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has engaged in discussions with the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ) regarding a proposed increase in Transjakarta fares. As of yet, no definitive decision has been reached concerning the adjustment of public transportation costs.

Haris Muhammadun, Chair of the DTKJ, presented the recommendation for a Transjakarta fare hike to Governor Pramono during a meeting at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, April 28, 2025. "We conveyed that the Transjakarta fare has remained unchanged since 2003-2004," Haris said on location.

According to Haris, this recommendation had been previously presented to governors prior to Pramono's tenure. While a decision is pending, Haris indicated that Pramono will consider the possibility of raising the Transjakarta fare, which has remained constant for approximately 20 years.

Haris added that the DTKJ will collaborate with the Jakarta Transportation Agency to further examine this proposal. "We will work together to refine it, and there are discussions indicating a potential fare increase," he said.

Syafrin Liputo, Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, confirmed that the current Transjakarta fare has been in effect since 2005. "As we know, the Transjakarta fare of Rp3,500 per passenger has been in place for 20 years," he stated.

Syafrin explained that the fare adjustment plan has been under consideration for an extended period. He noted that the Rp3,500 fare was established when the Jakarta provincial minimum wage (UMP) was approximately Rp800,000, whereas the current Jakarta UMP is Rp5.39 million.

The discourse on raising Transjakarta fares has persisted for 15 years. In 2010, then-Governor Fauzi Bowo proposed increasing the fare from Rp3,500 to Rp5,000. However, this plan was never implemented.

In 2020, five years prior to Pramono's governorship, Transjakarta again re-evaluated the fare increase. Sardjono Jhony Tjitrokusumo, then-CEO of PT Transportasi Jakarta, argued that the Rp3,500 fare was no longer aligned with prevailing economic conditions.

Jhony asserted that maintaining the current fare would place a significant burden on the Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD). He suggested that a feasible Transjakarta fare would be approximately Rp5,000. "This is based on the ability to pay and willingness to pay," he stated in South Jakarta on June 18, 2020.
