Jakarta Offers Free Public Transport on April 24

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government will make all public transportation free on Friday, April 24, 2026, to mark National Transportation Day.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said the policy is aimed at encouraging residents to shift from private vehicles to public transport.

“Happy National Transportation Day. On April 24, the Jakarta administration will provide free public transport services,” he said in a statement posted on his official Instagram account on Thursday.

Pramono added that the initiative is expected to increase public transport ridership and help reduce traffic congestion in the capital.

“The Jakarta government wants people to become more accustomed to using the public transportation facilities provided by the provincial administration,” he said.

The Jakarta government expects public transport usage to continue rising in the coming years.
