Jakarta Woman Accused of Staging Robbery to Cover Attempted Murder

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police have uncovered a case of attempted murder involving two colleagues at a house in the elite area on Jalan Pati, RT 08 RW 08, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. The suspect allegedly engineered a robbery report to cover up the assault he committed against his colleague.

The incident became viral as it occurred during the day on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Robby Saputra, stated that the reported robbery did not hold up. "It was just an alibi to cover up the actual incident," Robby said at a press conference on Friday, June 19, 2026.

The incident began when a woman identified as T a.k.a. U, age 31, reported to the Menteng Police on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at around 16:00 local time. T claimed to be a victim of a violent theft or robbery.

The victim in this case is a man with the initials MHA, age 30. According to T, two unknown individuals entered the victim's house through the rooftop. T then claimed that the two individuals were involved in a quarrel with the victim. Therefore, while she was on the first floor, she immediately went upstairs carrying a taser or stun gun.

Upon reaching the upper floor, T claimed that the two perpetrators had already confined MHA. She then requested them not to harm her colleague. T also claimed to have handed over valuable items including a 200-gram gold bar and 300 grams of gold jewelry.

However, according to T's confession, the two perpetrators still inflicted harm on MHA even after she handed over a total of 500 grams of gold.

Oddities in the Report

After receiving the report, the police found several inconsistencies. Investigators found that T's statements did not align with the testimony of the witnesses who were questioned.

From the investigation, the police concluded that there were no two individuals entering the victim's house as reported. "Instead, the assault on Mr. MHA was actually carried out by Ms. T herself," said Robby.

Robby also revealed that there was a time gap of more than an hour between the reported robbery and the police report. "During that one hour, the victim did not contact anyone, did not shout for help to the neighbors or security, and did not call paramedics for assistance," he said.

The suspect's sibling then reported T to the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police on allegations of severe assault and/or attempted premeditated murder.

Victim Receives Electric Shock, Beating, and Stabbing

During the incident, MHA was playing a game using virtual reality (VR) technology headset. At the same time, T prepared a set of tools to assault the victim. She took a portable power supply and connected it with a wet cloth and cable. After that, she asked the victim to hold the cloth.

As soon as the victim held the cloth, he was immediately shocked with an electric current for six to eight seconds and fell down. Since the victim did not lose consciousness, the perpetrator took a pan from the kitchen and struck the victim's head and back. However, the victim was still conscious and attempted to escape to the upper floor while screaming.

The perpetrator then chased the victim while carrying a stun gun. With the threat of a taser and a hammer, she forced the victim to lie on the bed. After that, the perpetrator took a nitrogen tube and instructed the victim to inhale the gas from the tube for about 10 minutes.

To ensure the victim lost consciousness, the perpetrator struck the victim's head with the nitrogen tube. As a result, the victim suffered serious injuries and bleeding in the head. The perpetrator then took a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the head, back, and neck.

As a result of the attack, the victim suffered lacerations to the head, bumps and bruises on the back of the body, lacerations to the upper and lower lips, a laceration to the left chin, and lost several teeth. The police also found ligature marks on the front of the victim's neck and lacerations to the back of the neck. In addition, the victim suffered bruises on the shoulder, an open wound on the chest, and lacerations on the right and left sides of the waist.

Motive of Grudge

So far, the police have questioned seven witnesses. From the interrogation, the investigators suspected that the suspect had harbored resentment against the victim for a long time.

The victim and the suspect were colleagues who had a company together in the field of information technology. The victim served as the CEO, while the suspect was the commissioner. They had been working together since 2020. "The motive is because the suspect resented the victim due to longstanding grievances, as the victim was considered slow and kept saying things that made the suspect upset," said Robby.

The police have arrested T and named her as a suspect. Investigators also seized several pieces of evidence, including a knife, bloodied cloth, fragments of the victim's clothing, a portable power supply, hammer, nitrogen tube, nitrogen tube hose, stun gun, and iron pan.

The suspect has been charged with Article 459 and/or Article 17 paragraph (1) juncto Article 458 and/or Article 466 of the Indonesian Criminal Code. She faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
