TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Quality Control and Supervision Agency for Marine and Fisheries Products (Badan Mutu KKP) has sent 98 tons of seafood products from Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi to the markets in the United States (US) and Thailand. The export value of the products released on June 24, 2025 is around Rp 28 billion.

The Head of Badan Mutu KKP, Ishartini, stated that all of the products had met all the export requirements, ranging from the Processing Eligibility Certificate (SKP), HACCP certification, to the Quality and Safety Certificate of Fisheries Products (SMKHP).

"A total of 42.4 tons of frozen octopus and 10 tons of frozen squid worth Rp 6.1 billion, as well as 45.6 tons of pasteurized crab meat worth Rp 21.9 billion are ready to be shipped to the United States and Thailand," she said in a written statement, as quoted on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

According to Ishartini, this export marks the initial step in building a sustainable fisheries and marine sector. Therefore, it can become a source of quality exports from the eastern region of Indonesia.

"Badan Mutu KKP is ready to ensure the quality and safety of fishery products from upstream to downstream, to ensure that Indonesian fishery products meet food safety standards," she said.

The Southeast Sulawesi government noted that the foreign exchange earnings from the fisheries sector during January-May 2025 reached Rp 25.45 trillion. In detail, the potential fishery production in Fishery Management Areas (WPP) 713 and 714 is estimated at 1.5 million tons, but the actual yield is only 275 tons. WPP 713 covers the waters of the Makassar Strait, Bone Bay, Flores Sea, and Bali Sea, while WPP 714 includes the waters of Tolo Bay and Banda Sea.

Previously, the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, stated that Badan Mutu KKP is an institution that ensures the quality of fishery commodities throughout the production chain, from upstream to downstream. Its tasks are related to acceptance, as well as the diversification of commodities and export destinations.

"It also supports the government's program in providing healthy fish-based food to uplift the dignity of fisheries communities in the regions and achieve prosperity," said Trenggono.
