Larry Ellison Overtakes Jeff Bezos as the Second Richest Person in the World After Elon Musk

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Oracle, Larry Ellison, has overtaken the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, as the second richest person in the world.

According to Forbes' list of billionaires, Ellison's wealth surged by a fantastic $26 billion on Thursday, June 12, 2025, bringing his total wealth to $243 billion, marking the largest single-day wealth increase ever experienced by a billionaire.

As reported by Times of India on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, this surge places Ellison above Jeff Bezos, who has a wealth of $227 billion, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who has $239 billion, making him the second richest person in the world, only behind Tesla CEO Elon Musk. According to Forbes, Musk's wealth has reached $407.3 billion.

Larry Ellison's wealth increase as one of the richest individuals in the world occurred after Oracle reported fantastic quarterly earnings in a call with investors. The company's stock surged past the $200 mark for the first time after posting revenue and profit that exceeded expectations for the quarter ending in May.

Prior to this, Jeff Bezos first became the second richest person in the world in 2017.
Amazon's founder at the time recorded a personal wealth surge to $75.6 billion alongside the rise in Amazon's stock. He then surpassed investor Warren Buffett.

Larry Ellison's Profile

Larry Ellison is the chairman, chief technology officer (CTO), and one of the founders of the software giant Oracle, where he owns roughly 40 percent of the shares. After serving as CEO of Oracle for 37 years, he stepped down from that position in 2014.

Furthermore, Oracle grew in part through the gradual acquisition of software companies, the largest of which was a $28.3 billion acquisition of the electronic medical records company Cerner in 2021.

In 2020, Ellison permanently moved to Lanai Island in Hawaii, which he nearly entirely bought in 2012 for $300 million. Ellison was a member of Tesla's board of directors from December 2018 to August 2022, owning 45 million adjusted shares before resigning.
