TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A leopard was reported to have entered a hotel in Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia, on Monday, October 6, 2025. The Head of the Bandung City Fire and Rescue Service, Soni Bakhtiyar, said they received the report at 06:50 AM.

“Our officers successfully carried out the rescue,” he told Tempo.

The incident was first reported by hotel security guard Nasimah, who saw a leopard descending from the second floor at 06:30 AM.

The hotel is located at 18 Padasaluyu Street, Isola Village, Sukasari District, Bandung. The report was immediately relayed to the Emergency Call 113 of the Bandung City Fire and Rescue Service.

“Thankfully, there were no casualties,” Soni added.

The rescue operation began around 07:50 AM and involved the military, local police, the Natural Resource Conservation Agency, forest police, Indonesian Red Cross, officials from Lembang Park Zoo, village authorities, and community protection personnel.

After assessing the leopard’s position, the wildlife was tranquilized. Once subdued, it was secured with a net and cloth, then placed in a cage and handed over to Lembang Park Zoo for observation.

“The operation concluded at 10:25 AM, taking a total of 2 hours and 35 minutes,” Soni said.

Leopard Escape from Lembang Park Zoo

The incident follows a previous escape of a leopard from the Lembang Park Zoo enclosure on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Evan Hans Christian, a zoo representative, clarified that the animal was not part of the zoo’s permanent collection but had been entrusted to them by the West Java Natural Resource Conservation Agency (BBKSDA).

The leopard, captured in Kuningan Regency on August 26, was placed in a quarantine cage for a health check before release back into the wild. However, it managed to break through the top of the cage and escape.

BBKSDA West Java head Agus Arianto said the protected animal was suspected to be heading toward the forest of Mount Tangkuban Parahu.

“We predict the leopard is moving toward the nearest forest, approximately 800 meters from the zoo,” Agus told Tempo on September 4, 2025.

Field observations and thermal drone monitoring over the following days indicated the leopard’s tracks leading into the protected forest area connected to Mount Tangkuban Parahu.

So far, it remains unconfirmed whether the leopard captured in the Bandung hotel is the same one that escaped from Lembang Park Zoo.
