TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tempo is once again holding its annual Tempo Film Festival as the culmination of Tempo's Film Selection (Film Pilihan Tempo) 2025 program. The event took place at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Ismail Marzuki Park, Jakarta, on Monday, January 26, 2026.
Tempo previously announced the list of nominees in several categories, including: such as Featured Supporting Actress, Featured Supporting Actor, Featured Lead Actress, Featured Lead Actor, Featured Screenplay Writer, Featured Director, Featured Film, Audience's Choice Featured Film, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tempo's Film Selection 2025 highlights films with diverse themes and perspectives released last year, with a team of jury comprising Tempo arts journalists and film industry figures outside the editorial team.
This year's festival introduces a new category, Audience’s Choice Featured Film, aimed at encouraging public participation.
Tempo Media Group CEO Arif Zulkifli underscores Tempo's Film Selection decades-long reign to curate, select, and review Indonesian films. "I believe I have to mention Leila Chudori as the film editor at Tempo back then. In 2017, this festival was created but halted due to the pandemic. Only in 2024 was this festival resumed, and this was the second year," he said.
How Tempo's Film Selection Works
The jury team of Tempo's Film Selection consists of Leila S. Chudori, Nurman Hakim, and Sugar Nadia. Leila said the criteria for this event remain consistent: embrace the films and pick out the best one. "A film that resonates with Tempo is one with unrestricted themes that is able to integrate all elements, and most importantly, storytelling ability," she said.
Meanwhile, Nurman said the jury members selected numerous works shown in theaters and streaming platforms. "We, the jury members, discussed [the nominations] from the film and form aspects. The five nominees reflect diverse themes," said Nurman. "To take responsibility for what we have selected, we will write about it in an article in Tempo Magazine, which will be released next week," he said.
Sugar mentioned that the jury carefully watched and discussed the nominated films. "Choosing the best among the best is not an easy task. A film is not only good in quality but also able to leave a mark," she said.
