TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Yangon will facilitate the repatriation of 54 more Indonesian citizens affected by anti-online fraud operations in Myanmar.
This repatriation is a continuation of the first phase of repatriation. Previously, 56 Indonesian citizens were repatriated and arrived in Indonesia on Tuesday.
"The second wave of repatriation is scheduled for (Friday) December 12, 2025, and will involve 54 Indonesian citizens," the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon stated in a written statement on the same day, as quoted by Antara.
The 54 Indonesian citizens have valid passports and have obtained border-crossing permits from Myanmar and Thai authorities. They will cross the border to Mae Sot, Thailand, on December 12 before being flown to Indonesia in the early hours of December 13, according to the Indonesian Embassy.
The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon stated that while it continues to expedite the repatriation of Indonesian citizens, the process remains gradual due to the need to adjust to security conditions in Myawaddy, the readiness of travel documents, and the capacity of border crossings.
Intensive coordination is also ongoing with Myanmar and Thai authorities, the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, relevant ministries and institutions, and partners in the field to ensure the safe repatriation of Indonesian citizens and their compliance with procedures.
The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon has also collected biometric data on hundreds of other Indonesian citizens still in Shwe Kokko, Myanmar.
More than 200 Indonesian citizens have been successfully registered for the issuance of a Travel Document in Lieu of a Passport (SPLP) as a replacement for passports lost, confiscated by online fraud operators, or expired.
The Indonesian Embassy is coordinating with local authorities to ensure all Indonesian citizens can promptly fulfill the administrative requirements for their return home.
"The Indonesian Embassy remains committed to providing maximum assistance until all affected Indonesian citizens can return to Indonesia safely," the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon stated.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has recorded more than 10,000 cases of online fraud involving Indonesian citizens since 2020.
According to Judha Nugraha, Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in October, not all of these cases involve Indonesian citizens who are victims of human trafficking (TPPO). Some also voluntarily work for online fraud syndicates.
