TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) or Pelni waived shipping costs for 47 TEU containers filled with logistics aid sent to various regions in Sumatra to support recovery efforts following post-disaster floods and landslides.

Pelni's President Director, Tri Andayani, stated that the company will make three shipments of dozens of containers starting this Friday, December 13, and on December 18, 2025.

"Today, we are sending aid items collected from the community through Pelni's branch offices for the flood disaster victims in Sumatra. A total of 15 containers will be transported by KM (motorboat) Kelud," said Tri Andayani, affectionately known as Anda, during the release of the free aid items for the disaster victims using Pelni's ship at Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Friday, December 12th, 2025, as reported by Antara.

She said that providing free transportation for logistics aid containers is one way the company is committed to strengthening post-disaster recovery efforts in various regions of Sumatra.

Tri Andayani stated that the waiver of shipping costs and the shipment of aid items via Pelni's ships to North Sumatra will continue until December 18th.

Furthermore, she mentioned that, in addition to the 15 containers, there are still 32 containers to be shipped on the following voyages.

"The next shipments will sail with KM Nggapulu on December 13th and KM Kelud on December 18th. So far, 32 containers have been collected for the next shipment," said Tri Andayani.

As for the first batch of aid, it came from Tegal, Surabaya, and Jakarta. The items sent include clothing, food, diapers, necessities, and religious supplies.

Tri Andayani expressed her gratitude to the public for their tremendous support in helping disaster victims in Sumatra.

"We are utilizing our fleet and regular route to North Sumatra via Belawan to transport aid items. The high level of public concern demonstrates national solidarity in alleviating the burden of Sumatra's disaster victims," said Tri Andayani.

At the same time, Pelni's Director of Cargo and Sea Toll Business, Kokok Susanto, stated that the total cargo of aid amounts to 15 TEUs, for which the shipping costs have been waived, saving Rp361.8 million.

He mentioned that, combined with the 32 containers to be shipped in the next batch, the waived shipping costs reach Rp1.4 billion.

"We ensure the logistics process runs smoothly and safely until it reaches its destination. The aid items will be received by the agencies that sent them from Jakarta, while we will distribute the aid items through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of North Sumatra," Kokok said.

As a national shipping company, Pelni is committed to being more than just a provider of sea transportation services. We are also a reliable partner in every humanitarian effort and disaster recovery, utilizing a fleet of ships that reach many islands and an integrated logistics network.

Furthermore, he said, KM Kelud is one of Pelni's passenger ships that regularly serves the Sumatra region, with the regular route Tanjung Priok - Batam - Tanjung Balai Karimun - Medan (PP).

Previously, Pelni directly distributed logistics aid to North Sumatra and West Sumatra through the North Sumatra Provincial Disaster Management Agency and the Padang City Emergency Response Post for Flood and Landslide Disaster Management.

The distributed aid consisted of basic food packages, ready-to-eat meals, blankets, bathing supplies, and medicine, as well as supplies for women and children with special needs.
