Police Chief Confirms Arrests Over Kalimantan Forest Fires

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Police Chief Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed that the police have arrested several perpetrators of forest fires.

"We are conducting an inquiry and investigation into the incident. We have secured several names," he said on Friday, August 21, as quoted by ANTARA. However, he did not reveal the identity of the person who was arrested in detail.

The Central Kalimantan Regional Police have named around 12 people as suspects in the forest fire case as of mid-August 2026.

"As of now, if I'm not mistaken, approximately 12 people have been named as suspects," said Central Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Iwan Kurniawan.

Iwan explained that all forest fire incidents in the region were followed up through investigations to determine the cause and the parties responsible. The investigation has identified suspects in several forest fire cases.

However, he has not yet specified the location of the incident or the identities of the suspects named in the case.
