TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russia responds to the threat of the United States imposing tariffs, as expressed by President Donald Trump. Russia continues to bombard Ukraine every night after Trump announced his decision to supply Ukraine with new military equipment. Trump also threatened to take further economic actions against Moscow.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, that Russian President Vladimir Putin would decide on his response to Trump. "The U.S. president’s statements are very serious," Peskov told reporters at a daily briefing. "Some of them are addressed personally to President Putin. We certainly need time to analyse what was said in Washington."
Dmitry Medvedev, former president and prime minister of Russia, who now serves as the deputy chairman of the State Security Council, was more straightforward. He wrote on social media that the Kremlin was not moved by what he called Trump's theatrical ultimatum.
"The world shuddered, expecting the consequences," Medvedev wrote. During the full-scale war in Ukraine, he was known as a very aggressive figure within the security apparatus of Russian President Vladimir Putin. "Belligerent Europe was disappointed. Russia didn't care," he said, as quoted from ABC News.
The Kremlin also denied on Tuesday reports that Trump had asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky if Ukrainian forces could attack Moscow and St. Petersburg. This report was first published by The Washington Post and Financial Times. However, the White House confirmed that the issue had been discussed.
Following Trump's threat of tariffs against Russia, officials in Kryvyi Rih, central Ukraine, reported about 20 air strikes in the city throughout the night until Wednesday. Air strikes were also reported in Kharkiv and Kramatorsk.
This came after the Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia had targeted several areas until Tuesday night with 267 drones, of which about 200 were Shahed attack drones and the rest were decoys. The Ukrainian Air Force said it had shot down or disabled 244 drones. A total of 23 drones hit seven locations, with debris reported in nine locations, the Air Force revealed.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that its forces had shot down at least 70 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles since Tuesday morning. One of the targeted areas was the Voronezh region in the southwest, bordering northeastern Ukraine. At least 24 people were injured there, Governor Aleksandr Gusev revealed through Telegram.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine within 50 days. If the war continues, he has threatened to impose new economic sanctions on Russia.
"We are very, very unhappy with Russia," Trump told reporters while meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House, as quoted by Al Arabiya.
