TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected 473 hotspots in South Kalimantan on Tuesday, spread across 11 regencies and cities, with the highest concentrations found in Hulu Sungai Selatan, Tapin, and Banjar regencies.
Utari Randiana, a weather forecaster at the BMKG Syamsudin Noor Meteorological Station in South Kalimantan, stated that the data was derived from monitoring by the Kalimantan Hotspot Information System as of 07:00 Central Indonesian Time (WITA) on Tuesday.
The monitoring results showed that no hotspots were detected in two areas: Banjarmasin and Balangan.
"Of the total 473 hotspots, 425 were classified as moderate, 32 as high, and 16 as low. The moderate category was the most dominant, accounting for approximately 89.9 percent of the total," Utari said in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Tuesday.
Hotspots with a medium confidence level are distributed across 11 regencies and cities: Banjar, Barito Kuala, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Hulu Sungai Utara, Kotabaru, Tabalong, Tanah Bumbu, Tanah Laut, Tapin, and Banjarbaru City.
Meanwhile, hotspots in the high-confidence category are distributed across seven regencies and cities: Banjar, Barito Kuala, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Tanah Bumbu, Tapin, and Banjarbaru City.
Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency recorded the highest number of hotspots with 118, followed by Tapin Regency with 102 and Banjar Regency with 99.
These three areas recorded the highest number of detected hotspots based on BMKG monitoring results.
For the medium category, hotspots are distributed across all 11 regencies and cities, whereas the high category was detected in seven regencies and cities.
In addition to the three areas with the highest number of hotspots, hotspots were also detected in Barito Kuala, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Hulu Sungai Utara, Banjarbaru City, Kotabaru, Tabalong, Tanah Bumbu, and Tanah Laut.
This distribution is based on monitoring data reflecting medium to high confidence levels.
Alongside hotspot monitoring, the BMKG also issued a forest and land fire (karhutla) hazard warning on Tuesday; this indicated that nearly all areas across the 13 regencies and cities fell into the "red zone," signifying a very high level of fire risk.
