Squid Game 3 is Number 1 on Netflix Globally the Day After Release

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Squid Game 3 immediately took the top spot on global Netflix just a day after its release. Based on data from FlixPatrol on Sunday, June 29, 2025, the South Korean series dominated the first position in the Netflix TV program category worldwide the day before.

The ranking includes 93 countries where FlixPatrol gathered data, including the United States and the United Kingdom. FlixPatrol ranks based on the scoring system from the Top 10 Netflix list in each country. Squid Game 3 accumulated a total of 930 points from 93 countries, far exceeding the second position held by the series Water Front with 676 points. This domination demonstrates that the audience's enthusiasm for Squid Game remains high, even in its final season.

The Story of Gi Hun Returning to the Game

The third season of Squid Game was released on Friday, June 27, 2025 and continues the story of Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) returning to the deadly game after failing to resist in the previous season. In this season, Gi Hun faces trauma and loss again, including the loss of a close friend in the game. The mystery surrounding the identity of the Frontman (Lee Byung Hun) is further deepened, along with the stories of other participants trapped in the brutal game.

The first season of Squid Game which aired in 2021 made history as the most popular series on Netflix at the time. The story of participants risking their lives for a prize of 45.6 billion won captivated global audiences and sparked a widespread Korean content trend across North America and Europe.

According to the Chosun Biz report, this success continued with the second season released last year. Squid Game 2 set a record for the highest viewership in its debut week and ranked third as the most popular series in Netflix history. The third season, which was produced alongside the second season, is said to be the conclusion of the Squid Game story.

Closing Event in Downtown Seoul

Netflix also held a massive launch event for Squid Game 3. On the evening of June 28th, in Korea, a closing event was held in Sejong-daero, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by director Hwang Dong Hyuk, as well as the main actors Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Park Hae Soo and Jung Ho Yeon from the first season.

Actors Yim Si-wan and Kang Ha-neul, who appeared in the second and third seasons, were also present. Rapper Thanos, one of the participants in Squid Game 2, played by T.O.P from BIGBANG, attracted attention as this was his first public appearance in Korea in eight years, since the marijuana controversy in 2017.
