Squid Game Season 3: Unfinished Stories and New Beginnings

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The third season of Squid Game finally premiered on Friday, June 27, 2025. The South Korean series that has been watched the most on Netflix became the climax of the survival game saga.

As reported by Antara, on June 28, 2025, Hwang Dong-hyuk's creation came back with six intense and emotionally engaging episodes. Netflix exclusively released all episodes at 2:00 PM WIB.

The third season continues the story of Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) as he returns to the Squid Game arena with the determination to destroy it from within. However, he must confront his inner conflict between the choice to save someone innocent or put an end to the vicious circle of the game.

Surprise Winner: Baby Inherits the Prize

This time, the winner of Squid Game is not the main character or the strongest competitor, but Player 222, the baby of Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri), the only one who survives the deadly game. The final challenge they faced was the platform game, a brutal challenge that required players to push other participants to advance to the next round.

At the climax, Gi-hun and his opponent, Myung-gi (Im Si-wan), engage in a tense duel. Myung-gi plans to sacrifice Gi-hun so that he and his baby can advance to the final round and take home the prize of 45.6 billion won. However, Gi-hun thwarts the plan by choosing to fight back and pushing Myung-gi to his death.

Unfortunately, because they forgot to officially start the final game, someone still has to die for the winner to be determined. In a moment full of pathos, Gi-hun sacrifices himself to save the baby.

"We are not horses. We are human," Gi-hun said before falling, leaving a message of resistance against the cruel system that turns suffering into entertainment.

The Fate of the Detective and Lingering Mystery

Detective Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) finally managed to infiltrate the island where the game took place. With the help of a player who escaped, Jun-ho confronted his own brother, In-ho (Lee Byung-hun), who led the game.

However, there was no meaningful explanation from In-ho. He managed to escape from the island while saving Player 222 before the island was blown up.

Six months after the game, he received the baby at his apartment, along with an ATM card containing a large prize. Jun-ho now carries the new responsibility of being the father of the Squid Game winner.

No-eul and the Bitter End of the Family Search

No-eul (Park Gyu-young), a mother from North Korea, managed to save Gyeong-seok (Lee Jin-wook) and his child. However, sad news arrived: her husband and biological child had died.

Nevertheless, false hope arose when she received news that her family was seen in China. The final episode shows No-eul boarding a plane with uncertainty, reflecting a mother's unwavering determination, even though she was likely being deceived.

Open Ending: Squid Game Heads to America

The third season closes with a stunning scene in Los Angeles. The Front Man, In-ho, is seen watching a foreign woman playing ddakji-a game that serves as a recruitment tool in the series.

The audience is shocked by the identity of the woman: Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, who has now become a new recruiter for this deadly game.

This indicates that the location of Squid Game may shift to the United States. Although Hwang Dong-hyuk previously referred to the third season as the conclusion, the emergence of new characters like Cate Blanchett's character and the expansion of the setting indicate the potential for a spin-off or global adaptation.

With the potential for the story to move to the United States and the introduction of new characters like Cate Blanchett's, the world of Squid Game seems to have not fully concluded.
