Beyond the issue of impeachment, a number of political opponents have begun to voice their concerns about using the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. This discourse was fueled by concerns about the president's mental stability, following the resurfacing of the Greenland acquisition issue and a series of other aggressive behaviors. Shutterstock

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, expresses optimism about the possibility of resuming talks with Iran, which he says could happen within two days in Pakistan.

"Something could be happening over the next two days," Trump said in a telephone interview with the New York Post while in Islamabad on Tuesday, as reported by Anadolu. "you know why? Because the field marshal is doing a great job."

Trump is referring to Pakistan's Field Marshal General Asim Munir, who has a strong relationship with Trump as he sought to mediate the Pakistan-India conflict last year.

"He's fantastic, and therefore it's more likely that we go back there," Trump said.

About an hour before that statement, Trump attempted to dampen the prospect of resuming talks with Iran in Pakistan, to the Post in a separate phone call.

"We'll probably go to another location. We have another location in mind (for the talks), OK?," he said.

It's unclear what changed between the two phone calls.

A separate White House official confirmed that further talks with Iran are being considered as the potential short-term ceasefire is approaching its end next Tuesday.

"Future talks are under discussion but nothing has been scheduled at this time," the official said.

Iran's Response

Iran continues to engage with Pakistan, but no agreement has been reached regarding the next round of talks with the US, said an Iranian source to the IRNA news agency on Tuesday, as quoted by Anadolu.

The statement was made after delegations from Iran and the US held rare direct talks in Islamabad on Saturday aimed at ending their conflict. However, the talks ended without any agreement on Sunday.

More than 3,300 people have been killed in US-Israel air strikes on Iran since February 28, according to Iranian authorities. Tehran retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf states that host US military assets before the two-week ceasefire was announced last week.

The war involving Iran, the US, and Israel has triggered a spike in world oil prices due to Tehran's blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

However, when the first Iran-US talks in Islamabad last week failed to produce an agreement, Trump ordered the US Navy to block the strategic maritime route.

Trump criticized European countries for refusing to participate in efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

On the contrary, many European leaders blamed Trump for starting a fight with Iran without consulting them.
