TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday, November 2, 2025, that he is currently not considering a deal that would allow Ukraine to acquire long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to use against Russia.
"No, not really… things can change but at this moment I'm not," Trump told reporters on Air Force One during the journey from Palm Beach to Washington, as cited by The Kyiv Independent.
According to reports from CNA, his statement reaffirmed his doubts about the plan to sell Tomahawk missiles to NATO countries, which would then transfer the weapons to Ukraine. Trump mentioned that he does not want to exacerbate the war escalation.
Meeting with NATO Secretary General
Trump had previously discussed the idea of transferring the missiles with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte when they met at the White House on October 22. Rutte stated on Friday, October 31, that the issue is still under discussion and the final decision remains in the hands of the United States.
The Tomahawk missile has a range of up to 2,500 kilometers, sufficient to reach areas within Russia, including Moscow. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously requested the missiles, but the Kremlin has warned that any transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would "qualitatively be new stage of escalation," as stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Comments on War and Russian Assets
When asked by reporters what would be the "final straw" for him to conclude that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not intend to end the war, Trump responded, "There’s no final straw. Sometimes you gotta let it fight out, it’s been a tough war for Putin, he’s lost a lot of soldiers maybe a lot of million. It’s been tough on Ukraine, tough on both. Sometimes you have to let it get fought out."
Trump also responded to questions about frozen Russian assets and the possibility of their use as a bargaining tool. "Europe and Russia are having discussions, I’m not involved in those discussions," he responded. Around US$300 billion of the Russian central bank's reserves are reportedly still frozen globally, with two-thirds, around US$185 billion, being held in the Belgium-based financial institution Euroclear.
