UAE Announces Eid Al Fitr Holiday Dates for Public and Private Sectors

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Arab Emirates has officially announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday schedule for employees in both federal government institutions and the private sector.

According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, federal government employees will observe the public holiday from Thursday, March 19, to Sunday, March 22.

For private sector employees, the official holiday period is scheduled from Thursday, March 19, to Saturday, March 21.

Private sector employees will receive an official three-day holiday. However, as Sunday falls on a regular weekend in the UAE, most workers are expected to enjoy an extended four-day weekend, particularly in Dubai.

Authorities added that the private sector holiday will be extended to Sunday, March 22, if the holy month of Ramadan completes 30 days, as per Gulf News.

In the Islamic Hijri calendar, months last either 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon near the end of the month.

Regular working hours are scheduled to resume on Monday, March 23.

Eid Al Fitr is one of the UAE’s major annual public holidays and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The celebration is traditionally observed with family gatherings, gift exchanges, and charitable giving within the Muslim community.

The announcement provides employees and businesses with advance notice to prepare for the Eid break, one of the most important religious holidays in the Islamic calendar.
