TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The investigation into alleged sexual harassment within the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (FH UI), continues. The case, allegedly involving sixteen perpetrators, has garnered attention from the FH UI academic community, the UI Student Executive Board (BEM UI), and even members of the House of Representatives.

The case came to light when sixteen FH UI students publicly apologized in a chat group of the 2023 FH UI students on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

The Chairperson of the FH UI BEM, Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, stated that the apology was made suddenly and without any clear context. Shortly after the apology, the alleged sexual harassment case involving the students went viral on social media. The account @sampahfhui posted evidence of verbal sexual harassment against women in the form of screenshots from the group chat of the perpetrators.

What is the current progress of the case?

UI Examining Alleged Perpetrators of Sexual Harassment

The University of Indonesia stated that the investigation into the sexual harassment case involving several UI Faculty of Law students is still ongoing. This investigation involves the Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPK), faculty representatives, and relevant units at the university level.

Erwin Agustian Panigoro, Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Relations at the University of Indonesia (UI), stated that UI has identified 16 students as suspected perpetrators of the harassment incident. He stated that the 16 students are currently undergoing questioning, while upholding the presumption of innocence.

Erwin stated that in carrying out the investigation, the UI PPK Task Force operates based on the institutional mandate stipulated in the Rector's Decree and Rector's Regulation No. 37 of 2025 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence within the University of Indonesia.

The ongoing stages of the investigation include examining the parties, reviewing the chronology, verifying evidence, and preparing recommendations by the PPK Task Force. These recommendations will serve as the basis for university leadership in making decisions.

"This includes the possibility of imposing academic sanctions according to the level of proven violations," Erwin said in a press release on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Number of Alleged Victims: 27

The victim's attorney, Timotius Rajagukguk, revealed that the alleged victims of harassment involving students from the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (FHUI), include 20 female students and seven female lecturers. According to Timotius, this case has been going on since 2025, and the victims were aware of the harassment that year.

"So, I think we can all imagine how they feel from 2025, every time they enter campus, every time they enter class, they know at any time the perpetrators can talk about them, harass them in front of them, using what they call a private group," said Timotius at the Student Activity Center (Pusgiwa), UI Depok Campus, Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Timotius said he only started handling this case after Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, or March 2026, because some of the victims couldn't take it anymore and finally sought help.

"I represent 20 victims. That's just the ones I represent, all of them students. The last I heard from the lecturers was that there were 7, and there are many other victims who may not even know they're being talked about," Timotius said.

Timotius hopes the campus will pay more attention to this case and not just dismiss it as a normal, everyday conversation between men.

"I also appeal to the parents of students, parents of students, and senior alumni who, in their time, may have felt this was normal. Why is this being made an issue of? No. We can't normalize this anymore," he said.

In response to this case, Timotius hopes that the University of Indonesia, the Faculty of Law, the UI PPKS Task Force, the UI Professors' Council, and the UI Faculty of Law Professors' Council will act on this case according to procedure and not let it drag on.

"Our request is simple. There is only one sanction we expect: dropout. Dropout is the sanction given when a student is deemed no longer fit to study at the university," Timotius said.

UI Faculty of Law Holds Hearing Forum

After screenshots of the alleged perpetrator's conversation circulated on social media, students and the FHUI Dean held a hearing forum for them on Monday night. The forum was held to address this issue. The forum was attended by FHUI Dean Parulian Paidi Aritonang and hundreds of students.

UI Student Executive Board Chair Yatalathof Ma'shum Imawan urged the university to expel them. "FHUI students are demanding that the 16 perpetrators be expelled," Yatalathof said at a forum held at the FHUI Djokosoetono Auditorium on Monday evening, April 13, 2026.

Based on Tempo's monitoring through students' live social media, the forum held by the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (FH UI) initially featured two alleged perpetrators. The other perpetrators were not present due to their parents' prohibitions. After midnight, they agreed to join the forum after pressure from the students in attendance. The forum continued until the early hours of the morning.

The sixteen alleged perpetrators were identified as MKA, MNA, RBS, KEP, MVR, NZF, MRARP, DSW, MT, AHFG, SPBP, IK, RM, PDP, MDP, and RFR. During the forum, the alleged perpetrators took turns confessing to the verbal sexual harassment they had committed within the group. The sexual harassment targeted several lecturers and other female students.

According to Athof, the forum resulted in the dean of the Faculty of Law, UI, committing to imposing strict sanctions. "They could even be expelled if serious errors are proven in the process," he said when confirmed on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
