US Warns Countries Participating in UN Summit on Two-State Solution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States is lobbying foreign governments not to attend the upcoming UN conference sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia regarding a two-state solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict. This was revealed from U.S. diplomatic cables as reported by Middle East Eye.

The cables, which were sent to countries on Tuesday, warned them not to take "anti-Israel actions." Washington even threatened that attending the conference would be viewed as acting against U.S. foreign policy interests and may face diplomatic consequences from the U.S.

As reported by The Times of Israel, Washington will oppose any unilateral steps to recognize the existence of the Palestinian state.

The US Department of State did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

France, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is an ally of the U.S. in NATO. Saudi Arabia is one of the United States' closest partners in the Middle East.

During his visit to Riyadh in May, U.S. President Donald Trump was praised, where Saudi Arabia signed multi-billion-dollar investment deals with the U.S.

From June 17-20, France and Saudi Arabia will jointly host the meeting in New York. The meeting is held following Israel's genocide in Gaza over the last 20 months. The casualties, injuries, severe disabilities, and children without any family have become the heartbreaking stories of the Palestinian people in the region.

The Gaza Health Ministry reported on Wednesday that the death toll of Palestinian civilians in Israel's attacks over the 20 months in the enclave has exceeded 55,000 people, with women and children accounting for more than half of the victims.
