TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Short videos offering instant loans are rampant on social media. “Fast loans, instant disbursement, no requirements,” one advertisement promises. Others pitch “Loans without BI (Bank Indonesia) checks.” The most tempting: “Zero-interest loans, no ID needed, just your phone number and bank account.”
Hudiyanto, Head of the Secretariat of the Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (Satgas Pasti) at the Financial Services Authority (OJK), said illegal online lending platforms, namely those that are not registered with the OJK, have become increasingly aggressive on social media, video platforms, and messaging applications. “It is increasingly massive and often misleading,” he told Tempo on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
Hudiyanto urged the public to stay alert because such ads make people vulnerable to the illusion of easy access. Behind that promise lie the risks of data misuse and violent, intimidating debt collection. The spread of illegal lending ads has become one of Pasti Task Force’s “battlegrounds” in its efforts to stamp out illegal online lenders.
Shut one down, and a thousand more appear, that is how Hudiyanto describes the fight against “dark” lenders. “For every application or site we shut down, three new ones pop up under different names within a single day,” he said. The speed at which these operators rebrand far outpaces law enforcement’s ability to act. Creating an app is simple and quick, it takes only a few hours. Uploading and distributing it online is just as fast.
