Zelensky Holds Talks with Southeast European Leaders on EU and Regional Security

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said that he held discussions with leaders from Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania, and Serbia during the Ukraine-Southeast European Summit. The talks are slated to cover regional security, energy cooperation, and Ukraine's path toward European Union membership.

Zelensky confirmed an initial meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov, where they addressed bilateral relations, Black Sea security, and energy cooperation. "We have fulfilled the necessary conditions and expect the opening of the negotiating clusters in the near future," Zelensky stated on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, as quoted by Anadolu.

He expressed gratitude to Bulgaria for its "real support" through 11 defense aid packages.

The Ukrainian leader also participated in the first trilateral meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Romanian President Nicusor Dan. During this meeting, they emphasized collaborative efforts to counter Russia's hybrid threats, cyber-attacks, and military aggression. "Together with Romania, we will certainly help Moldova in resisting Russia’s destructive influence," he affirmed.

Zelensky added that discussions also encompassed energy, military cooperation, infrastructure, and enhanced mobility. He noted that sanctions and his role in the peace process were addressed in separate discussions.

Furthermore, he met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, whose first visit to Ukraine Zelensky described as "truly important." Their talks focused on EU integration, bilateral relations, and Serbia's initiatives to aid in the reconstruction of Ukrainian settlements. "We value Serbia’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," Zelensky concluded.
