TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Twelve Indonesian citizens evacuated from Iran have arrived safely in Jakarta on Monday, June 30, 2025. They traveled via the Baku–Doha–Jakarta route, accompanied by a liaison officer.
“On June 30, 2025, 12 evacuees and 1 companion from Iran arrived, traveling on the Baku-Doha-Jakarta route,” said Judha Nugraha, Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens Abroad at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a written statement released Tuesday, July 1.
Final Group in First Evacuation Phase
According to Judha, this group marks the final wave of the Indonesian government's first phase of evacuations from Iran, which began in response to rising regional tensions and a worsening security situation.
“The Indonesian government has evacuated a total of 97 evacuees—comprising 96 Indonesian citizens and 1 Iranian citizen, all of whom have safely arrived in Indonesia,” he said.
Second Evacuation Phase Being Prepared
Plans are now underway to carry out a second phase of evacuations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and other diplomatic missions, is coordinating efforts to facilitate the return of additional citizens who have requested to leave Iran.
The ministry aims to begin the second evacuation phase in the first week of July, following the latest requests submitted by Indonesian nationals.
Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs, Andy Rachmianto, previously stated that around 380 Indonesians were known to be residing in Iran. With 97 already evacuated, approximately 283 may still require assistance.
Government Prioritizes Safety of Citizens in Conflict Zones
The Foreign Ministry continues to closely monitor the condition of Indonesian citizens in the broader Gulf region, where a significant number of Indonesians live and work.
According to Andy, the government has taken proactive measures in anticipation of escalating tensions following the United States’ recent strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. Ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens in the region remains a top priority.
