TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Canadian national team striker Jonathan David equaled Argentina superstar Lionel Messi's goal tally in the provisional top scorers list at the 2026 World Cup held in Mexico, Canada, and the United States, as of Friday, June 19, Indonesian time.
As reported by ANTARA, FIFA's website states that both players have scored three goals each, bringing glory to their countries during the group stage.
Messi managed to lead the scorers list with a hat trick against Algeria, so Argentina won 3-0 in the Group J match at the Kansas City Stadium in the U.S. on Wednesday.
After that, David chased and did the same thing, namely scoring three goals when Canada celebrated six goals without reply against Qatar in the Group B match at BC Place Stadium, Vancouver, Canada, on Friday.
Below David, several players have scored two goals. They come from various participating countries and are the driving force behind each team's attacks in the group phase.
Most recently, Swiss player Johan Manzambi also found the net. He scored twice in Switzerland's 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina at BMO Stadium in the U.S. on Friday.
English striker Harry Kane also scored two goals as his country defeated Croatia 4-2.
Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland did the same, leading France and Norway to three points respectively on Wednesday.
For the host nation, Folarin Balogun also scored twice as his country defeated Paraguay 4-1 in their Group D match.
