TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the last 10 days of February 2026, 57% of West Java experienced low-intensity rain. However, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the intensity of rain is predicted to increase to the medium category in the first 1-10 days of March, dominating 80 percent of the region.

The BMKG predicts that the distribution of high rainfall, with intensities of 150-300 millimeters, will cover parts of Sukabumi bordering Banten from north to south in the early days of March. In addition, in Majalengka and surrounding border areas such as Sumedang, Kuningan, Ciamis, and Cirebon.

Meanwhile, the BMKG predicts some areas with low rainfall of 0-50 millimeters per 10-day period in West Bandung, Cimahi, the northern part of Karawang, Subang, and Indramayu.

The weather forecaster from the West Java BMKG Climatology Station, Diana Hertanti, said that from March 2-8, atmospheric dynamics are expected to support an increase in the supply of water vapor and the growth of convective clouds in some parts of West Java.

Some influencing factors are the relatively warm sea surface temperature in Indonesian waters, the active Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) atmospheric wave phenomenon, and Kelvin and Low-Frequenct atmospheric waves, which contribute to the formation of rain clouds.

Additionally, wind convergence areas may form around the West Java region, and atmospheric stability conditions may be mild to strong. "All of these factors support the potential development of convective clouds on a local scale in the West Java region," she said in a written statement on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

The potential for moderate to very heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and strong winds on a local and brief scale on Monday, March 2, 2026, includes the areas of Bogor, Depok City, Cianjur, Sukabumi, Greater Bandung, Sumedang, Indramayu, Majalengka, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, City of Banjar, and Pangandaran.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, these conditions are potentially in Bogor, Depok, Purwakarta, Cianjur, Sukabumi, Greater Bandung, Sumedang, Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, City of Banjar, and Pangandaran. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the same conditions are potentially occurring in Bekasi Regency, Karawang, Cianjur, Sukabumi Regency.

The potential for moderate to very heavy rain on Friday includes Bekasi, Bogor, Depok City, Karawang, Purwakarta, Subang, Cianjur, Sukabumi, West Bandung Regency, Sumedang, Indramayu, Majalengka, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya Regency, and Pangandaran.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the same conditions may occur in Bogor Regency, Sukabumi, Sumedang, Majalengka, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, City of Banjar, and Pangandaran. On Sunday, the potential for the same conditions in Cianjur, Sukabumi, Sumedang, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Pangandaran.

The BMKG calls on the public and relevant agencies to remain vigilant against changing weather conditions, which have the potential to cause hydrometeorological disasters such as heavy to very heavy rain, strong winds, floods, landslides, and fallen trees.
