Brazilian President Hails Indonesia as Key Partner in Advancing the Global South

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, stated that Indonesia is a strategic partner for Brazil in strengthening the position of Global South countries. Lula da Silva said that Brazil is committed to strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia.

President Lula da Silva hopes to renew the partnership and establish new agreements with Indonesia. He aims to invest in artificial intelligence, data centralization, and technology. "I come to renew strategic partnerships, establish new agreements, not only for bilateral trade, but also to invest in new areas such as artificial intelligence, data centralization, and to deepen our scientific and technological relationships," said President Lula da Silva in a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Additionally, Lula da Silva aims to strengthen university relations between Indonesia and Brazil. He also seeks to promote balanced trade between the two countries. "It must be a mutually beneficial trade policy. Indonesia is a strategic partner for Brazil," he said.

President Lula da Silva also thanked President Prabowo for his visit to Brazil in July 2025. He also welcomed Indonesia's inclusion in the BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. He views Indonesia as a potential strategic partner to strengthen developing countries.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo stated that Brazil and Indonesia have good relations. Prabowo welcomed Lula da Silva's visit to Indonesia. He recalled the warm and positive reception he received when he visited Brazil in July of 2025. Prabowo expressed admiration for Lula da Silva's policies, seeing them aligned with Indonesia's priorities in improving the welfare of the people.

The Presidential Secretariat reported that President Lula da Silva's visit to Indonesia is a return visit, following President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to Brasilia in July 2025. "This visit is also expected to strengthen the strategic cooperation between the two countries in various fields," said the Presidential Secretariat.
