TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Dozens of elementary school students and schoolchildren welcomed Lula da Silva.

Tempo observed that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's black Mercedes Benz sedan initially drove around the National Monument (Monas). Hundreds of armed cavalry escorted the vehicle.

Lula da Silva entered the Merdeka Palace courtyard in Central Jakarta at 10:15 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. Lula da Silva was greeted by dozens of elementary school students at the entrance to the Palace. They were seen waving two flags: the Indonesian flag and the Brazilian flag. Hundreds of Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres) were also stationed around the courtyard.

Prabowo, wearing a blue suit, a blue tie, and a black peci (traditional Indonesian cap), welcomed President Lula da Silva at the entrance to the Merdeka Palace. As he exited his Brazilian-registered car, Lula da Silva, wearing a blue suit and a red tie, immediately embraced Prabowo. Lula was accompanied by the First Lady of Brazil, Rosangela Lula da Silva.

Prabowo then shook hands with both of them. Prabowo and Lula da Silva then walked along the light blue carpet provided. They then headed to the podium in front of the Merdeka Palace.

The welcoming ceremony began. Hundreds of Indonesian Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres) saluted the two leaders. The national anthems of both countries were played, during which Prabowo saluted.

Afterward, the master of ceremonies reported to Prabowo that the ceremony was ready to begin. Prabowo and Lula da Silva then inspected the troops. The two walked around the front yard of the Merdeka Palace. Along the way, they saluted the troops. They also greeted dozens of elementary school students already present.

The troop inspection concluded. The two then introduced their respective delegations. Prabowo introduced Lula da Silva to several members of the Red and White cabinet. Prabowo introduced Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni, Minister of Higher Education and Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Afterward, Prabowo, Lula da Silva, and his wife entered the Merdeka Palace. They then posed for a group photo with the media. Lula da Silva wrote in the guest book. They then entered the Palace for a closed-door meeting.

The Presidential Secretariat reported that President Lula da Silva's visit to Indonesia was a reciprocal visit to President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to Brasilia in July 2025. "This visit is also expected to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries in various fields," said the Presidential Secretariat.

Lula da Silva arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon, October 22, 2025, at approximately 5:45 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. Lula da Silva was greeted by Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Indonesia George Monteiro Prata, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Federative Republic of Brazil Andhika Chrisnayudhanto, and Commander of Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Air Marshal Erwin Sugiandi.
