TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chinese Premier Li Qiang is slated to make a state visit to Indonesia. "Premier Li Qiang plans to visit Indonesia at the end of May 2025," said Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on Monday, as quoted by Antara.

Wang Yi disclosed this information during the inaugural 2+2 China-Indonesia First Ministerial Level Meeting, alongside Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

"As you know, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia is the rotating chairman of ASEAN and will hold the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-China Summit. We support this positive initiative of Malaysia, but we also want to maintain and promote China-Indonesia cooperation. Therefore, we believe that if possible, Premier Li Qiang should also visit Indonesia," said Wang Yi.

If the visit takes place, it will be Premier Li's first visit since President Prabowo Subianto took office.

Premier Li Qiang last visited Indonesia on September 5, 2023, to attend the ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN-China Summit (10+1), ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Summit, and the East Asia Summit.

"As major developing countries, China and Indonesia must uphold the principles of open, mutually beneficial, and inclusive cooperation, and reject protectionism and unilateralism. The misuse of tariffs will harm the rights and trade of other countries," said Wang Yi.

Wang Yi said Beijing is committed to strengthening regional economic integration, maintaining stable and smooth supply chains, and advocating for justice and the rule of law for countries in the Global South.

In the 2+2 meeting, Wang Yi said China and Indonesia agreed to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the UN and the 70th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference. This will be done through closer multilateral strategic cooperation, promoting the principles of peaceful coexistence and the spirit of Bandung, and strengthening cooperation in platforms such as the UN, BRICS, and G20, for world peace and development.

"This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia, opening up new opportunities in bilateral relations. We are satisfied with the results of today's meeting and agree that the next meeting will be held in Indonesia," said Wang Yi.

The meeting also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
