TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The eviction of Sultan Hotel at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area in Jakarta ended in chaos. Hundreds of protesters threw fist-sized rocks at the security forces stationed at the location.
The Head of Public Relations Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that a total of 29 people were injured in the incident. "The National Police had 26 officers sustain minor injuries due to the rock-throwing," said Budi on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
In addition, a TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) soldier was also injured at the temple due to a stone attack by the protesters. Two other injured victims are civilians who were present at the location when the incident occurred.
The Deputy State Secretary Minister, Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, also became a victim. He suffered swelling in the leg due to being hit by a rock thrown by the protesters. The incident forced him to leave the eviction site earlier.
The chaos also injured someone associated with the Sultan Hotel. The legal representative of the group claiming to be the heirs of Sultan Hotel, Kivlan Zen, suffered an injury on the back of his right hand.
According to Kivlan, he obtained the injury from being pushed by the crowd towards the barbed wire. "It's just a scratch, so I contribute my blood to this struggle," Kivlan told reporters after the chaos.
The Clerk of the Central Jakarta District Court, Ahyar Patmika, stated that the Sultan Hotel eviction process was in accordance with the requirements. "It is not in violation of the law and can be granted," said Ahyar to journalists at the Sultan Hotel area on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
Ahyar said that with determination, the court's bailiffs can begin the process. "To carry out the evacuation and return it to the Plaintiff Reconviction," said Ahyar.
The Chair of the Block 15 Gelora Bung Karno Transition Team, Hendry Arisandi, previously stated that the technical preparations ahead of the eviction process had begun. This preparation was made due to the lack of goodwill from the operator of the Sultan Hotel, PT Indobuildco.
Henry stated that PT Indobuildco has not yet carried out the court's order regarding the evacuation of the execution object. "Our principle is clear, this eviction is the implementation of the court's order," said Hendry through a written statement quoted on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
