TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The original FIFA World Cup Trophy arrived in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta on Thursday, January 22, as part of the global FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour ahead of the 2026 tournament.
The 18-carat gold trophy was brought from Malaysia and displayed at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) in Senayan, Central Jakarta, under tight security. The Jakarta stop is part of a worldwide tour that will take the trophy to 75 cities across 30 FIFA member associations.
According to FIFA, the tour began on January 3 and will span more than 150 days, giving football fans around the world a rare opportunity to see the sport’s most prestigious prize ahead of the expanded 2026 World Cup.
The next FIFA World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will feature 48 national teams, making it the largest World Cup in history.
The trophy is transported on a specially chartered aircraft and accompanied by strict security protocols at every destination, including in Jakarta.
Quoted on FIFA’s official website, Mickael Vinet, Vice President of Global Assets, Influencer, and Partnerships at The Coca-Cola Company, said the tour reflects football’s unique ability to bring people together.
“Football has an unmatched ability to bring people together, no matter where they’re from or what language they speak,” Vinet said.
He added that for two decades, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour has connected fans with the magic of the game.
“As the Trophy travels towards the biggest FIFA World Cup in history, we’re celebrating the passion, pride, and unity that make football the world’s favorite sport,” he said.
FIFA Chief Business Officer Romy Gai said the trophy tour has visited 182 of FIFA’s 211 member associations across five editions. He noted that the current tour is particularly significant as it marks the 20th anniversary of the initiative and builds momentum toward the first World Cup hosted by three countries.
“The FIFA World Cup Trophy is recognized worldwide as the greatest symbol in sports,” Gai said.
