TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian national team qualified for the semifinals of the 2026 AFF U-19 Championship, or ASEAN Boys Championship, after topping Group A by defeating Vietnam 2-1 in their final match at the North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang.

Indonesia's two goals in the match were scored by Reno Salampessy (22') and Evandra Florasta (penalty 90+1'). Vietnam had equalized through Nguyen Quoc Khanh (73').

Needing a win to top Group A and secure a place in the semifinals, Indonesia immediately took the initiative on offense from the start.

Coach Nova Arianto's men immediately pressed forward, employing a game of short passes.

Continuing to press, Indonesia scored the first goal through Reno Salampessy (22') after latching onto a pass from Arkhan Kaka. The number 7 player carried the ball into the penalty box, shadowed by Vietnam's Tan Dung Le, before slotting the ball into the net.

Trailing by a goal, the Vietnamese players tried to regain control of the game by implementing a more aggressive approach, aiming for an equalizer.

The Vietnamese players' tenacious play put the home defense through quite a bit. Vietnam even came close to equalizing at the end of the first half, but their attempt was thwarted by the Indonesian defense.

The 1-0 lead held for the home team until halftime.

Entering the second half, Vietnam played even more aggressively, launching attack after attack, targeting the heart of the Indonesian defense.

In the 51st minute, Trong Dhui Khang Hoang had a chance to score, but his shot was saved by Indonesian goalkeeper Dafa Al Gasemi.

In the 56th minute, Indonesia almost doubled their lead through Irfan, who had received a through ball from Arkan Kaka. However, his shot went too high over the crossbar.

Vietnam's goal finally came in the 73rd minute, when Nguyen Quoc Khanh headed home from a corner kick. The Vietnamese captain's goal leveled the score at 1-1.

The Indonesian national team eventually regained the lead, this time through substitute Evandra Florasta from the penalty spot in the 90+1 minute.

Indonesia's penalty came from a foul by Vietnamese defender Van Khanh Nguyen on Theodore Evan Leeming in the penalty area.
