Indonesia Fields 432 Athletes for 2026 Asian Games

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) has selected 432 athletes from 35 sports to represent the country at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan from September 19 to October 4.

NOC Indonesia Chair Raja Sapta Oktohari said that all of the athletes who were sent had gone through a selection and evaluation process with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) and the national sports federations.

"The Asian Games is not just a competition, but also a platform to demonstrate that Indonesian sports continue to develop and are capable of competing with the best countries in Asia," Okto said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday, as quoted by ANTARA.

"All the participating athletes have gone through a thorough selection process and extensive preparation. Now it's time for them to show their confidence, give their best, and bring honor to Indonesia," said Okto.

The Indonesian contingent is also strengthened by 148 coaches and officials as well as 32 Chef de Mission (CdM) team personnel.

After reviewing the athletes' readiness, opportunities for achievement, and technical requirements for each sport, Kemenpora and NOC Indonesia determined the composition of the contingent.

Of the 35 participating sports, boxing, fencing, and table tennis are participating in the Asian Games through an independent funding scheme sourced from their respective federations and partners.

Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said the evaluation was conducted objectively and professionally to ensure the departing athletes were truly ready to compete at the Asian level.

"Kemenpora, along with NOC Indonesia and all sports branches, is committed to sending the best athletes who are prepared and have the potential to excel. Every member of the contingent has undergone a rigorous review process, so we are optimistic that the Indonesian team will be able to compete at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games," said Erick.

He asked all athletes to maintain focus, uphold sportsmanship, and give their best to make Indonesia proud.

Indonesian Team CdM Todotua Pasaribu ensured that the preparations of the contingent continued to be refined, from departure to return, including accommodations and match operations.

"All preparations are proceeding according to plan. We are also in close communication with the Kemenpora, NOC Indonesia, and the national federations of the participating sports, ensuring everything from preparation and departure to accommodations, match operations, and even the return journey runs smoothly," said Todotua.

He emphasized that the CdM team will strive to provide the best service possible so that athletes can focus entirely on achieving success at Asia’s largest sporting event.
