Spain: Most Migrants Who Crossed Into Ceuta Returned to Morocco

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Almost all migrants who entered Ceuta have returned to Morocco, said Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares, who also called for an end to misinformation.

"It is not possible to travel from Ceuta and Melilla to mainland Spain without identifying yourself at a police checkpoint," Albares said via social media X on Friday, as quoted by ANTARA.

"The integrity of the Schengen Area is fully guaranteed. Enough of the deliberate misinformation," he stressed.

Earlier, the Spanish news agency EFE reported that hundreds of migrants had crossed the border from Ceuta into Morocco due to the repatriation agreement between Spain and Morocco.

Migrants also said that many shops, supermarkets and restaurants in Ceuta were closed, leaving them unable to meet basic needs.

Spain’s Civil Guard and the Army’s Regulares No. 54 unit were deployed along the Tarajal coastal area to prevent the entry of migrants arriving by sea.

According to Spanish authorities, at least 57 people have died in the migration crisis in Ceuta.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called the migrant incursion into Ceuta since Thursday an "attack" and a "violation of Spain's territorial integrity." He also promised to restore the situation as quickly as possible.
