TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Army (TNI AD) is preparing about 12,000 troops for the deployment plan of Indonesian peacekeeping forces to Gaza. This number is equivalent to 60 percent of the total 20,000 personnel projected for the mission under the joint TNI operation.

Head of Information Service of TNI AD, Colonel Infantry Donny Pramono, explained that the composition of forces is still in the initial planning stage. However, in terms of proportion, the Army will deploy more than half of its troops to Gaza.

"Out of a total of 20,000 peacekeeping troops, the TNI AD will contribute around 60 percent, while the Navy and Air Force will contribute 25 percent and 15 percent, respectively. However, the final figures will be officially determined by the TNI Headquarters in accordance with the developing situation and mission needs," Donny said when confirmed on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Donny stated that the operation in Gaza is not a single-service assignment. The full force deployment planning is entirely under the control of the TNI Headquarters. Therefore, the TNI AD's role is to prepare personnel and units in accordance with the operational plan's needs. This includes filling the Composite Brigade structure and supporting special function units.

Unit preparations include health battalions and construction engineering, as well as other elements of assistance needed for the humanitarian mandate. The "Assistance Battalion" is also projected for protection, mobility, and humanitarian tasks. However, the formation details of each battalion are still awaiting approval from the TNI Headquarters to ensure the integrated movement of all components.

He stated that each stage is ensured to be under a single command to maintain consistent and accurate public information. "The TNI AD is fully prepared to support whatever decision the country makes in this humanitarian mission, and the entire process is being carefully and meticulously prepared and integrated with the other two services," said Donny.

Donny stated that the Army rigorously selects soldiers in stages, with assessments focusing on their health and psychological well-being. He explained that the nature of peacekeeping duties demands physical endurance, mental stability, and the ability to work in high-risk environments.

According to Donny, every soldier must understand the mission mandate, the basic resolutions, and the rules of engagement that will be applied in the operational area. He emphasized that this is important to prevent any mistakes in decision-making in the field.

As of now, there is no final schedule for the deployment of troops to Gaza. The certainty of force deployment awaits official authorization and operational directives from the TNI Headquarters.

The plan originated from President Prabowo Subianto, who expressed willingness to deploy 20,000 sons and daughters of the nation to help secure peace in the Gaza region, Palestine. He made this statement during his speech at the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
