TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Kingdom’s Defense Minister, John Healey, has called for an investigation into whether convicted American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein trafficked women and girls to the UK using a private jet that landed at Royal Air Force (RAF) bases.
The Telegraph reported on Thursday that Healey has instructed UK officials to review two decades of Defense Ministry records, urging them to “leave no stone unturned” in uncovering any potential links between Epstein’s private aircraft and RAF facilities.
According to Al Jazeera, the investigation follows former Labor Party Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s appeal for authorities to examine whether former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor used taxpayer-funded jet travel and RAF bases in connection with Epstein.
The Telegraph highlighted Brown’s concerns over Epstein’s private flights, including a Gulfstream jet that landed at a Norfolk airbase in December 2000 before visiting the royal residence in Sandringham alongside Mountbatten-Windsor.
Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested last week on suspicion of public duty offenses during his tenure as the UK’s trade envoy, reportedly involving the transfer of classified government documents to Epstein.
UK and EU Investigate Peter Mandelson’s Epstein Links
The UK’s Intelligence and Security Committee announced on Thursday that it plans to release documents explaining how senior politician Peter Mandelson was appointed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer as the UK’s ambassador to the United States, despite his long-known connections to Epstein.
“We are proceeding at pace to publish the first tranche of documents in early March,” a committee spokesperson said.
Mandelson, 72, was briefly detained and later released by the Metropolitan Police as part of their investigation. Although Prime Minister Starmer removed him from the ambassador role last year after Epstein-related associations surfaced, questions remain over Mandelson’s initial appointment.
The European Union’s anti-fraud office, OLAF, is also investigating Mandelson’s actions during his time as British trade commissioner in Brussels between 2004 and 2008, following a request from the European Commission.
