TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) will resume the operation of cross-strait ferry services in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) starting Monday, July 20, 2026. CEO of ASDP Heru Widodo said the resumption of operations is done after the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, instructed the Class II NTT Land Transportation Management Agency (BPTD) to reactivate the service.
He said the company has coordinated with the Ministry of Transportation and regulators to ensure all operational aspects are ready to be executed. "ASDP is ready to resume the pioneer ferry services as per the government's directive. For people in the archipelago, especially in the 3T regions, this service is the main link for social and economic activities," said Heru in a written statement on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
ASDP Kupang Branch General Manager Ardhani Friandy said the company has prepared the fleet, ship crew, and services at the port so that the operation can resume in accordance with the regulator's provisions.
The resuming services cover the routes of cross-strait ferry services served by ASDP Kupang Branch and Sape Branch, including routes in the Flores, Lembata, Alor, Sabu Raijua, Sikka, West Manggarai, and up to Waingapu regions.
Previously, the operations of all pioneer ferry crossings in the work area of ASDP Kupang Branch and Sape Branch were temporarily suspended since July 1, 2026. The cessation was carried out after the Class II NTT BPTD stated that the regional government did not have a funding basis to pay subsidies to the operator. This was triggered by the absence of subsidies for pioneer ferry transportation from the State Budget Semester II of Fiscal Year 2026.
Through a letter dated June 30, 2026, the BPTD requested ASDP to temporarily halt all pioneer ferry transportation services funded by the State Budget until further notice. The policy was then conveyed by the NTT Transportation Agency to the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government the following week.
In the letter, the suspended pioneer ferry crossings include Labuan Bajo-Waingapu; Labuan Bajo-Pulau Rinca for routes under the ASDP Sape branch. Then routes of Kalabahi-Bakalang-Baranusa-Adonara; Lewoleba-Solor-Larantuka crossing; Sabu-Raijua-Waingapu crossing.
Then routes of Kalabahi-Pulau Pura-Teluk Gurita-Maritaing-Kewapante-Palue-Marapokot; Kewapante-Pemana crossing, and Kewapante-Pulau Besar crossing for routes served by ASDP Kupang Branch. Tempo has tried to confirm the matter of the letter to the Ministry of Transportation and ASDP. However, the response from ASDP came in the form of a statement or media release.
